Graduate Student Recruitment 2027
Two Research Opportunities | Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Tsukuba
Advancing Spine Medicine Through Interdisciplinary Research
Basic Science × Biomechanics × Medical Innovation
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Tsukuba is seeking two prospective graduate students to join our ongoing research projects in the 2027 academic year.
Our research addresses important clinical challenges in spine and spinal cord disorders through interdisciplinary approaches integrating molecular biology, immunology, biomechanics, and biomedical engineering.
We welcome motivated individuals from diverse academic backgrounds, including pharmacy, life sciences, biology, engineering, and related fields.
We believe that bringing together different perspectives and expertise can open new possibilities for the future of spine medicine.
Current Research Projects
- Spinal Cord Injury and Novel Therapeutic Strategies
Targeting Inflammation and Immune Responses for Neurological Recovery
Our research focuses on understanding the inflammatory and immune mechanisms underlying spinal cord injury and developing novel therapeutic strategies.
Current projects investigate how chronic oral inflammation affects spinal cord injury outcomes and how modulation of immune cell functions may promote neural tissue repair.
Relevant fields include molecular biology, immunology, pharmaceutical sciences, and neuroscience.
- Next-Generation Spine Surgery Technologies
Integrating Engineering and Clinical Medicine
We aim to develop innovative medical devices and intraoperative technologies to improve the safety and precision of spine surgery.
Current research includes the development of novel methods for intraoperative bone tissue assessment.
Relevant fields include mechanical engineering, acoustic engineering, information science, and data analysis.
- Sports Spine Medicine and Biomechanics
Optimizing Treatment Through Biomechanical Research
Our research focuses on lumbar spondylolysis in young athletes, including bone healing prediction, conservative treatment strategies, and biomechanical evaluation of surgical techniques.
We combine clinical investigations with mechanical testing and quantitative analysis to improve treatment outcomes.
Relevant fields include sports science, biomechanics, engineering, and clinical research.
